The Apache News Round-up: week ending 26 September 2014

With more than 200 projects and initiatives at The Apache Software Foundation, there are so many amazing things happening in the Apache community! Here are some noteworthy items from over the past week:

Apache Accumulo™ –sorted, distributed key/value store is based on Google's BigTable design and built on top of Apache Hadoop, Zookeeper, and Thrift

Apache Cordova –a set of device APIs that allow a mobile app developer to access native device function such as the camera or accelerometer from JavaScript

Apache DeltaSpike™ –portable JSR-299 CDI (Contexts and Dependency Injection for Java) Extension library which contains lots of useful tools and helpers which are missing in the CDI core spec

Apache Flex™ –highly productive, open source application framework for building and maintaining expressive web applications that deploy consistently on all major browsers, desktops and devices (including smartphones, tablets and TV)

Apache Gora™ –easy-to-use in-memory data model and persistence for big data framework with data store specific mappings and built in Apache Hadoop support

Apache HttpComponents Core™ –low-level HTTP transport components that can be used to build custom client and server side HTTP services with a minimal footprint, supporting two I/O models: a blocking I/O model based on the classic Java I/O and a non-blocking, event driven I/O model based on Java NIO.

Apache MINA™ –network application framework that helps users develop high performance and high scalability network applications easily by providing an abstract, event-driven, asynchronous API over various transports such as TCP/IP and UDP/IP vis Java NIO

Apache MyFaces™ –the free, open source implementation of JavaServer(tm) Faces, the web application framework that accomplishes the MVC paradigm

Apache Olingo™ –Java library that implements the Open Data Protocol (OData), and serves client and server aspects of OData

Apache Portable Runtime™ –software libraries that provide a predictable and consistent interface to underlying platform-specific implementations

Apache Solr™ -popular, blazing fast, open source NoSQL search platform from the Apache Lucene project
